Our Curriculum
At Warren Wood Primary School, we provide the children with a rich, broad and creative curriculum where they can be successful learners who enjoy learning, make progress and achieve. Teachers take a pride in ensuring that all our children are engaged, challenged and achieve their full potential.
Learning in English and Mathematics is well structured and carefully planned to be inclusive and to provide challenge for all, with core skills and knowledge embedded across the whole curriculum offer. Our Broader curriculum is carefully sequenced to build skills and knowledge and is enhanced by creative planning, DEAL (Drama Engagement Active Learning) and enquiry based learning. We ensure that learning takes place both inside and outside of the classroom, preparing children for 'the world outside the window'. Our curriculum is also enhanced by trips, visitors and special events throughout the year.
Our 'Golden Threads' for effective learning
At Warren Wood, we believe that happy children who develop a love of learning at a young age are set up for success. We have a shared ethos in our school, developing these golden threads which we believe are fundamental to creating happy, successful learners.
Our curriculum has evolved and developed in a variety of ways over the last few years.
As a staff, we have committed staff INSET training time to sharing and shaping our ethos to find the key aspects that we feel will prepare our pupils for the 21st Century world in which they are growing up in.
All of our learning is tied together with 'Golden Threads' which are the concepts which link new and prior learning together. Whilst some of these 'Golden Threads' lend themselves to specific subject areas, there are some threads which are woven through all of our learning.
Collectively, we have decided that our 'Golden Threads' for effective learners are the following :
Inquisitive |
Resilient |
Collaborative |
Ambitious |
Confident |
Responsible |
Proud |
Children’s interest is fuelled by their naturally inquisitive natures. They will take ideas from a ‘hook’ or opportunity presented to them and part of the fun of teaching is seeing where the children take their learning.
Resilience is a core value that we build in our pupils. We ensure that they are happy and committed to their learning, taking risks and knowing that making mistakes is part of learning and part of life. We firmly believe that pupils will develop a strong sense of independence through sharing collaborative experiences with their peers and learning from each other.
They will develop their understanding of the world around them, form their own informed opinions and develop a strong sense of identity, belonging and responsibility at different levels. They will become ambitious in the pursuit of high attainment and progress in order to fulfill their potential.
This will allow children to develop confidence in their own abilities, leading to higher self-esteem and self-worth.
